Episode 52 – Andrew Connell, Microsoft Build, and Microsoft Lists!

May 28, 2020

In Episode 52, Andrew Connell from the Microsoft Cloud Show hijacks Techsplaining to talk with Rob, Brett, Mark and Stephanie about Microsoft Build for our longest episode yet!

We catch up with AC for a little while, chat about the state of quarantine life in Florida, conference travel, and then dig into the Virtual Build 2020 conference.

We (passionately) discuss:

  • What we like to see in a virtual conference, the importance of naming sessions well, and how to access recordings
  • General thoughts on the announcements from Build
  • Microsoft Lists – this is where we get into it for a while!
    • Why are we making such a big deal over something that’s been around since the beginning of SharePoint?
    • We all share our 5 perspectives, from developer to ISV to supporting the business – you might even change your own opinion !
    • Where do we think Microsoft headed with SharePoint? Is it just a document container?
    • Personal lists vs Team lists – are we creating a TON of technical debt?
  • SharePoint Spaces – is now in public preview
    • Mark has his son Bergen working on SharePoint Spaces this summer
    • But what is it REALLY for? Do we ‘get’ it yet?
  • Analytics – shortcomings and what’s really good
    • Is it a full time job to manage Office 365 changes?
    • Is Microsoft focused on usability and getting IT out of the way over the ability to manage what’s being created?
  • Power Platform improvements
    • Discussion on supporting power user apps vs IT apps
  • AC’s massive savings on his static website using Azure and other smaller announcements that didn’t get the same fanfare as Microsoft Lists

For those who missed Microsoft Build, you can find Microsoft Build sessions on Channel 9.

For those that would like to hear more from AC, you can find him on the Microsoft Cloud Show and at Voitanos for SharePoint and Office 365 Developer training.
